Berlin, Maryland, March 16, 2009 — Grow Berlin Green (GBG), a new campaign created to establish Berlin, Maryland as a model community for participatory environmental protection, conservation and smart growth policy and practice, awarded four area teachers a conference scholarship to attend this year’s MAEOE conference, The Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education.
Jeanene Gwin and Victor Hall of Berlin Intermediate School, Pat Johnson of Stephen Decatur Middle School and Jessica Patterson of Stephen Decatur High School were the recipients of this year’s scholarships.
“MAEOE has hosted statewide environmental education conferences for over 23 years and is the largest state environmental education conference,” explains Grow Berlin Green’s Program Director Steve Farr, “one of GBG objectives is to educate and engage citizens and public officials in Berlin and the surrounding areas on environmental conservation, restoration and smart growth issues, activities and policies. We felt that providing the means for some of our educators to attend this conference is a great initial segment into our new program.”
GBG is a three year campaign managed by the coalition of Assateague Coastal Trust, Lower Shore Land Trust and Maryland Coastal Bays Program driven by community education, empowerment and action.
